A super-PAC backing Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) is attacking both GOP Senate front-runner Dan Sullivan (R) and Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell (R) in a new ad, the latest sign that the primary there remains competitive.
The spot from Put Alaska First rips Sullivan for trying to "give government more power over our land and water," and attacks Treadwell for helping to create "a company that helped the government spy on people."
The ad seems designed to hurt both candidates with libertarian-leaning voters in both the primary and general elections, and potentially boost 2010 Senate nominee Joe Miller (R) in the primary.
"Sullivan and Treadwell: More government, less privacy, out of touch with Alaska," the ad's narrator says.
Sullivan has been leading Treadwell and Miller in polls for months, though recent polls indicate a tightening race between Sullivan and Treadwell, and has a huge fundraising advantage over both of his foes. - The Hill, 8/11/14
Here's the specific focus on Treadwell in the ad:

Treadwell sees his inclusion as a sign that Put Alaska First sees him as a threat, with the Aug. 19 primary looming. Put Alaska First's treasurer declined to comment on that.
The ad says Treadwell launched a company that "pushed a national ID card," in trying to paint him as supporting more government control.
Treadwell says a company he helped found in the 1990s made technology to validate the authenticity of currency, passports and photo identifications. - News Miner, 8/10/14
And speaking of ads:

Sen. Mark Begich, Alaska Democrat, said he doesn’t plan to take down a campaign ad showing him working together with his Republican colleague, Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
“I think it’s very factual — 80 percent of the time, we vote together,” he said Monday on MSNBC. “Alaskans like that the Alaska delegation is working together.”
Ms. Murkowski has sent Mr. Begich a cease-and-desist letter to stop playing the television ad, saying that he used her likeness without her permission. - Washington Times, 8/11/14
Meanwhile, the GOP candidates are busy duking it over this:

Thousands of miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, three Republicans vying for their party's nomination for U.S. Senate in Alaska clashed on immigration Sunday night in a televised debate ahead of the Aug. 19 primary.
Both former Alaska Attorney General Dan Sullivan and Lt. Gov Mead Treadwell refused to sign a pledge offered by tea party favorite Joe Miller to oppose all efforts at "amnesty" for people here illegally if elected to the U.S. Senate, with Treadwell chastising Miller for sending out a mailer on immigration featuring menacing Hispanic gang members. Miller, in turn, noted that several of Sullivan's backers, like GOP strategist Karl Rove, favor allowing many of the 11 million immigrants in the country to eventually become citizens.
"It's because it's the truth," Miller said when challenged about the pictures on the flier. "This is real-world stuff."
The debate, broadcast on KTVA-Channel 11, was co-sponsored by Alaska Dispatch News. - Alaska Dispatch News, 8/11/14
It'll be interesting to see who wins the primary. Right now it looks like Sullivan but anything could happen between now and next Tuesday. In the mean time, click here to donate and get involved with Begich's campaign:
