Like everyone else I was very shocked by this. At first I thought it was another one of those stupid social media hoaxes (that needs to stop). But right after I saw the first post on Facebook I saw another, then another and they were linked to different news sites. Instead of clicking on any of the links I went to news.google.com (my main site for news) and saw it was real.
Robin Williams was brilliant. His stand-up was amazing. He made incredible movies (and a few bad ones). He is one of the few comedians who can make me cry with laughter.
A lot of people have expressed shock that someone so funny and talented could suffer from depression. I’m not surprised. I’m actually aware of it. I’ve heard of other comedians who suffer from depression and bipolar syndrome. I can understand “turning it on” when it’s time to be on. I don’t think I ever really suffered from depression but I don’t think I’m the same guy when I speak in public or play in my band. During those times “I’m on.” Most of the time I can be very quiet.
I caught a few episodes of William’s new show and it was hilarious. I hate it was cancelled. I wonder if it wasn’t would he still be alive?
He made some great movies. Mrs. Doubtfire, Goodwill Hunting, Good Morning Vietnam, Aladdin, The Birdcage, Dead Poets Society, The World According To Garp among others. I can forgive him for Popeye, Jumanji, Hook and Flubber.
I think I’m going to watch some of his old standup on Youtube.
