It's hard to get more tea party than Maine Gov. Paul LePage, and it's also harder to get more generally and universally offensive than LePage, as well. So you've got to wonder why
this is happening.
AUGUSTA, Maine — He promised in May that Maine would be seeing a lot of him this campaign cycle, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is making good on that pledge when he lands in Bangor on Tuesday to stump and fundraise for the re-election of Gov. Paul LePage.
Christie, chairman of the Republican Governors Association, has said Maine’s gubernatorial election — in which the incumbent LePage faces Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud and independent businessman Eliot Cutler — is one of the RGA’s key races in 2014.
You'd think maybe Christie and his 2016 aspirations wouldn't necessarily want the LePage stink on him, because if there's ever a guy you'd want to distance yourself from, it's Maine's governor. But maybe Christie is convinced by LePage's
conviction that LePage is going to win because—and this is a direct quote from LePage—the "governor says that he's either going to be blown out by a landslide or he's going to win by a landslide." If he's confident enough to become a third person to himself, well, then. Either that or Christie is shoring up his creds with the loonie wing of the GOP. Or whatever.
The combination of Christie and LePage and the combined weight of their egos and their general obnoxiousness should be enough to drive Democrat Mike Michaud's polling numbers up even more. After all, LePage isn't just inflicting himself on the state, he's brought along Christie, too. That kind of madness has to end.
Please give $3 to help Mike Michaud give LePage the boot.
