Okay, has the world just gone batshit crazy? First we have the Ferguson policeman killing an unarmed young man, followed by one of their officers calling protesters "fucking animals," and now there's this:
According to the Daily Mail:
"During a report on Monday night about the actor’s legacy, Smith described his death as ‘cowardly’, citing a quote from Williams in which the actor described his children as an inspiration. ‘One of the children he so loved, one of the children grieving tonight because their father killed himself in a fit of depression,’ Smith said.
Fox News host Shepard 'Shep' Smith has apologized after calling Robin Williams 'such a coward' just hours after he committed suicide.
‘You could love three little things so much, watch them grow, they’re in their mid-20s, and they’re inspiring you, and exciting you, and they fill you up with the kind of joy you could never have known.’
‘And yet, something inside you is so horrible or you’re such a coward or whatever the reason that you decide that you have to end it. Robin Williams, at 63, did that today.’
But he's not the only one. Todd Bridges tweeted that what Williams did was "a very selfish act."
Walk in a tortured man's shoes 100 miles, then maybe you're fit to judge him. Until then, keep your trap shut. In fact, just shut up anyway. You have no idea what this man was going through. Depression is a powerful disease, so powerful that it can claim any one of us. How dare you judge him.
As far as I'm concerned, Shep and Todd, you're only apologizing because of the backlash. Out of the mouth comes the abundance of the heart.
We have lost something as human beings. It's love. It's compassion. It's…just gone and I don't know if it will ever come back.

5:07 PM PT: Shep's Apology: "I would never presume to know anything about his private life. And if any of his family members and friends were to have seen me use the word “coward,” I would be horrified. I would just like to apologize to the end of the earth to anyone who might think that I meant to openly call him a coward. To the core of my being, I regret it. It just came out of my mouth. And I’m so sorry. And to anyone and their families who see that, I am sorry."
5:10 PM PT: Todd Bridges' apology: "I apologize for my negative comment, and I ask forgiveness for any pain that I have caused anyone."
This is all well and good, but it seems like in situations like these people have a tendency to apologize AFTER the backlash. If there hadn't been pushback, would an apology have come? Guess we'll never know.
