How the Koch's big money sink started, Julie Boonstra and her "horror story."
Harry Reid was definitely
on to something when he started in on the Koch brothers and their single-minded assault to buy the Senate. It's a campaign taken up by Democrats everywhere, and raising the profile of the Kochs has been paying dividends. That shows
this week in Michigan, where one of their groups is pulling out, at least for now.
Freedom Partners, which had booked about $1.1 million in Michigan airtime, abruptly canceled the ads this week.
The state is home to a contested, open-seat Senate race between Republican Terri Lynn Land, Michigan’s former secretary of state, and Democratic Rep. Gary Peters. Koch-supported groups, led by the nonprofit Americans for Prosperity, have advertised heavily there this year. […]
Starting in February, the Democratic group Senate Majority PAC began attacking Land as an instrument of powerful and wealthy interests, airing ads featuring a photo of Charles and David Koch and warning that Land would help "the powerful at our expense."
Land has been having enough
problems on the plutocrat front, given she's the wealthiest candidate running for Senate in this cycle has self-funded her campaign to the tune of $3 million. She's also been caught doing some creative accounting to hide the fact that she's stinking rich. So it doesn't help her one bit to be so closely associated with the likes of the Kochs.
Of course, there are plenty of other well-heeled Republican groups to step into the void, so Land won't be hurting for support. But the Kochs have spent millions in the state, starting with one of the very first deceitful ads. Apparently they've decided they've flushed enough of their fortune down the toilet on this one. At least for now.
This is all good news for Gary Peters, Daily Kos's endorsed candidate. Let's keep the good news coming for him.
So please, chip in $3 to help elect a fearless progressive like Gary Peters to the Senate.
