Kossacks from Los Angeles, San Diego, the Inland Empire and Orange County got together in downtown Los Angeles on August 9th for the first unexpectedly almost All Southern California meetup.
Our special guests were DKos Director of Community navajo and Front Page writer Meteor Blades who drove down from Kos HQ to talk about the new focus on community and political action. I had forgotten that she asked me to set up a Google Group a few months ago; it is Daily Kos Los Angeles, a moderated group, which means that Joe Republican off the street can't come in and post nonsense there. DKLA members are not required to join this, but it is going to be part of our communication network in the future. To be added, send me any email address you want to use for this purpose.

navajo also wants us to set our own Facebook page; Jeremy Bloom offered to assist with that. Some regions have DKos weekly local-based open threads and we can do that, too. For example, peregrine kate does that for Detroit. I can see that as something we take turns with, either on a regular schedule or occasionally. Please let me know if you would like to participate in that. This is a good opportunity for someone who hasn't been blogging and wants to try something different.
Many of you are talking about what kinds of political action we'll be initiating or participating in going forward, but that deserves its own diary. Everyone who went to NN14, particularly those of us who were privileged to hear the Rev. Barber, are ready to rock and roll. So, we'll want to start with with identifying what needs to be done and what we want to do.
I'm also going to do a Roll Call Diary. Now that there is renewed interest in the Inland Empire and San Diego, and Orange County and Long Beach will probably get together, let's find out where we live.
All of these things were talked about at the meetup. Joe Bacon, who worked for the Social Security Administration for a long time, warned us about the Feds closing a lot of SSA offices. Contact Joe for more info.
DKLA member Vyan was our main speaker. He started with some personal stories about his life and his journey as a political person, and went on to talk about his experiences at NN14 and finding a new place of belonging and purpose at DKos. He wrote about that here http://www.dailykos.com/... and here http://www.dailykos.com/...
