Democracy For America announced its endorsement of Tim Sheridan for Congress in California's 42nd Congressional District earlier this year as a "€œforward looking leader who will fight to ensure that people-powered policies, not right-wing extremism, become the norm in Washington," stated Franco Caliz, Electoral Campaigns Manager for DFA. Tim Sheridan, an employment/labor professional, is running against 20 year incumbent Congressman Ken Calvert for the Inland Empire Congressional seat.

€œ"Congress is broken; Ken Calvert has played a role in that dysfunction; and the people of California's 42nd deserve better representation in Congress," Sheridan said.  "My experience working as a labor/employment professional has given me the ability to see an issue, zealously represent my side while working to find a solution with those who are representing the other side.  This is exactly what is missing in Congress - the ability to work across the aisle to get things done for the good of the country as a whole, and for my district."

€œTim Sheridan has a history of working "for the people," Caliz said in explaining DFA's reasons for endorsing Mr. Sheridan.  "Whether it'€™s fighting for employees facing unfair and arbitrary discrimination, proving his ability to stand up to big business and push for what is right... He will work to pass comprehensive immigration reform, ensure equal pay for women and enact voting rights protections." Caliz added, "He will focus on bringing jobs to Riverside County through investing in infrastucture repair, green energy research, and environmental renewal."

"It is humbling to know that such an influential group is willing to endorse us," Sheridan said, "I will work tirelessly to ensure I live up to their expectations."

Like the Sheridan Campaign, Democracy for America is a national grassroots organization designed to put the power of governance in the hands of the people, not in special interest groups or people with deep pockets and teams of lobbyists. "DFA is committed to uniting people behind the shared values of community, security and liberty, and fighting to realize a fairer, more progressive America."

The 42nd Congressional District runs along the I-15 corridor roughly from Corona southeast to Temecula, and northeast along the I-215 and CA-79 corridors to Beaumont. It also includes the communities of Eastvale, Norco, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Murrieta, Menifee, Sun City, Winchester, Homeland, Canyon Lake and Nuevo. See map

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
