Tonight voters in Alaska go to the polls in their party primary, and the GOP will pick their nominee in the hotly contested U.S. Senate race. (Wyoming is also up, but there aren't any notable statewide or federal races to watch there.)
There will also be a special election in Virginia's SD-38 that will either cement the Republican majority or hand the chamber back to the Democrats. Our guide to both races can be found here. Poll close in Virginia at 7:00 PM ET and in Alaska at 12 AM ET and we'll be bringing you tonight's results as they come in. You can keep track of the winners just below.
Results:
Alaska: Summary, by State House District (district descriptions) | Virginia | Wyoming
4:25 PM PT: SD-38: So much for that. With 11,000 votes in, the state Board of Elections gives Republican Del. Ben Chafin a 62-30 lead.
4:28 PM PT: SD-38: These results represent 33 percent of precincts but it's hard to see things changing. Chafin leads across the board: He even leads with 70 percent in Tazewell County, where the Democrat is a county supervisor. Game over.
4:32 PM PT: VA House: Democrats lead easily in both of their vacant state House seats. In HD-48 the GOP made some noise about taking it, but Democrat Rip Sullivan leads 60-40 with 28 percent in.
4:37 PM PT: Polls will close in Wyoming at 9 PM ET, and we'll check back here then. Republican Gov. Matt Mead is expected to easily beat his primary challenger state Superintendent of Public Instruction Cindy Hill, but we'll take a look just to make sure. At 12 AM ET the real fun begins, as Alaska Republicans select their nominee to take on Democratic Sen. Mark Begich.
7:01 PM PT: WY-Gov: An hour after the polls closed, we're up to a whopping 3 percent reporting. Republican Gov. Mead leads former university trustee Taylor Haynes 61-27, with state Superintendent of Education Cindy Hill at 13. Maybe Hill can surge to a distant second, but it looks like this race looks like an utter snoozer, just like we predicted.
In any case, we'll be back at 12 AM ET for the main event in Alaska.
9:04 PM PT: The liveblog continues here.
