11 Things to know about the Michael Brown Shooting

Mediaite Link for live coverage

Anonymous Ops link:

Captain Ronald Johnson had another presser early this morning showing some of the handguns confiscated from some guys who drove by the Command Center and decided to threaten the police. Pepper spray was the eau du jour yesterday so while there was less violence, there is a continuing sense of tension, especially when one sees protests happening elsewhere in the area. we don't yet have much of a report about AG Holder's visit although the Kabuki of trying to get to a special prosecutor should be part of that discussion. We still have yet to see the incident report for the Michael Brown Shooting yet apparently the one for this below unrelated(sic) incident from Tuesday during the daytime is already available.

This is the citizen video from earlier yesterday where two STL police shot and killed a 23 year old man for taking energy drinks and pasty from a store. This is just so messed up. I understand a bit more why there is such a visceral response during the actions in Ferguson and while I do not condone the collateral stupidity of drive-bys and settling scores peripheral to the protests in Ferguson, something needs to change in policing as well as in communities.

OTOH the cop in this video has been suspended indefinitely

7:31 PM PT: rain should suppress some of the action tonight. See Fox News, no need for water cannons!

7:33 PM PT: rain will also render tear gas less effective

8:07 PM PT: Ferguson protests send Taser stock up 30%:

8:11 PM PT:

8:15 PM PT: KARG is now taking a break to move its camera to catch what appears to be cops arresting protesters who are covering their faces. Last night one smart kid also covered his ears with some kind of plastic to reduce identification while he wore a baseball hat and a kerchief

8:50 PM PT: KARG back on. Clergy still out marching tonight

9:01 PM PT: KARG seems satisfied that there may be calm this evening and may take some breaks, although we still have a couple of hours and we'll know more when/if  Captain Johnson does his presser at the Command Center which generally has taken place sometime after 2am CT

9:10 PM PT: really want to sneak a mike up to those two STL Sheriff's deputies

9:11 PM PT: KARG now believes street clearing might occur although they're going to move camera position again to get a better angle on potential action

9:13 PM PT: first time seen a member of the Nation of Islam (love those clip-on bowties)

9:14 PM PT:

9:43 PM PT: in last night's presser Capt. Johnson said that a bottle of urine was thrown at the police line, causing the cops to charge the media line to apprehend the perp

9:51 PM PT: yeah this is the inspiration for doing a live stream and why I can put up with it:

Empire is a 1964 American silent black-and-white film made by Andy Warhol. It consists of eight hours and five minutes of continuous slow motion footage of the Empire State Building in New York City.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
