I live in Portland, Oregon. Jeff Mekeley is my (D) senator. I keep seeing ads against Jeff Merkley all over the internet. Tonight when browsing old music videos on Youtube by the likes of Canned Heat and Creedence Clearwater Revival, I saw the same ads before the music videos. Here's an example:

do you see the anti-merkeley ad? Or is it just aimed at folks on Oregon?

thank you,

You must add at least one tag to this diary before publishing it.

Add keywords that describe this diary. Separate multiple keywords with commas.
Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

I see different ads then you because I am in Florida but they seem to be everywhere on the internet.  It bugs me they are on you tube, also.  November can't some soon enough because I am already tired of ads. The trouble it will get worse as time get closer to the general election.

  •  Ugh. We need vamp up. There are so many people (5+ / 0-)

out there believing their lies, and Fox lies, and talk radio lies. It's exhausting just thinking about it.

We just need to keep engaged and impress upon liberal-minded people that the Midterm Election is just as important as the last Presidential Election.

And we need to change history with Democrats showing up to take back the House. I refuse to be satisfied with just holding on to the Senate. That goes without saying. We need the House for these next two years to matter. Or we're fucked.

Google and other companies choose ads for you to see depending on what type of things you Google. If you want to change that go to your browser settings and deal with "ad choices". You can opt out of certain things. Google uses cookies to track what you visit and sells that info to third parties.

I chose a different browser( Duck Duck Go, which allows no cookies) and I opted to allow no cookies for sites I visit. I also chose to make my info private and put very little info on the web. Any info you allow will end up available for anyone to get if they wish. There are sites out there that compile all your info( name, address, phone#, age, workplace. interests, tax info, mortgage info, name of hubby, children, pictures)...anything that is on the web and available thru public information about you.

Scared now? You should be. It's easy to get the information about anyone. Look how much information you give out when you sign a, address, and phone number and what type of causes you support and how much you support them financially.

You can take some control over what you allow others to see about you and use.

. . . for the Children's Education Council of Missouri, hammering Gov. Jay Nixon's (D) education policy.

I presume it is funded by a right wing outlet, but cannot find who this organisation actually represents.

I live in the Nebraska Panhandle, but my Internet Service Provider (CenturyLink) diverts through a server in Missouri, so I get targeted adverts for people in Missouri when my IP is read.

When my geolocation is read however, I do not get such adverts (as my geolocation in Firefox is set to fifty metres under the centre of Loch Ness).

As for other adverts, those are taken care of by Better Privacy.

It is noteworthy that there is complaining about government organisations such as NSA that follow what you do on the Internet, but if you sign on to a site such as Huffington Post there must be forty commercial tracking companies.

At Daily Kos you see blocked with Better Privacy the following: quantserve, googleadservices, chartbeat, newswhip, and google.

here in Connecticut.  Scary how much wealth they have to lie with.  Truly horrible human beings the Koch's are - why can't they use their extraordinary inherited wealth to build schools, hospitals and cure some hideous disease instead of making life worse for people.

Happy they are wasting their money.

The ads are targeted based on your ISP location.

Here in Los Angeles we are inundated by ads from Koch popular front groups.  They have people showing up on group (sport's teams) message boards who pound RW marketing points and who disappear once the elections are over.

But YouTube lets you skip the rest of any ad after 5 seconds, which I always do.  If it's a political ad, let the Koch billionaires waste their money.  I'm not paying any attention.  I have a very negative reaction to anything the Koch billionaires are selling, including all their commercial products.

  •  Different ads here (0+ / 0-)

Probably the ads are triggered by location documents, or an ip tracer.
