A plurality of Americans approve of President Obama's response to Ferguson, according to a new CBS/NYT poll, but the poll
also finds that a significant number do not have an opinion on the subject.
Forty-one percent of Americans are satisfied with how the president is responding to the situation in Ferguson, while 34 percent are dissatisfied. Twenty-five percent don't have an opinion.
As is typically the case in polls on the president, African-Americans were more likely to approve of the president than whites, whose attitudes split along party lines.
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon received weaker reviews overall than the president:
Only a quarter of blacks nationally are satisfied with Mr. Nixon’s actions, while nearly half said Mr. Nixon’s performance in the aftermath of the shooting was not satisfactory. In contrast, whites were divided: A third were satisfied and a third dissatisfied.
The poll was conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday with a margin of error of ±5 percent among whites and ±8 percent among African-Americans.
