As Media Matters reports, Fox News has almost impossibly reached new lows when it comes to coverage of the Muslim world. I'll keep the commentary low; the quote speaks for itself.
Following a guest soldiers's analysis that the ISIS is nowhere near indicative of the moderate Muslims he served alongside, that the caliphate absolutely does not stand for any country or the religion of Islam, and that Muslims themselves have been victims of the ISIS, conservative "political analyst" Andrea Tantaros claims:
If you study the history of Islam. Our ship captains were getting murdered. The French had to tip us off. I mean these were the days of Thomas Jefferson. They've been doing the same thing. This isn't a surprise. You can't solve it with a dialogue. You can't solve it with a summit. You solve it with a bullet to the head. Its the only thing these people understand. And all we've heard from this president is a case to heap praise on this religion, as if to appease them.
Yes Andrea Tantaros, the First Barbary War clearly stands for the entire religion of Islam and its role in the modern world. Honestly out of all of this, the doctrine coming out of Andreas Tantaros' mouth is the exact same doctrine being endorsed by the ISIS: a large part of why this conflict has been allowed to fester simply has been due to our inability to see the other side of the conflict as human due to making sweeping generalizations and thus believing the only way to solve it is through a "bullet to the head".
