There's a spectacle taking place in England; the last two flying Avro Lancaster Bombers have been flying in formation with the last flying Avro Vulcan Bomber. This is part of an extended farewell tour for the Vulcan; it won't be possible to keep her flying much longer. As for the Lancasters, the two ships pairing up is not a common sight because one is based in Britain, and the other has come over from Canada for this tour.
Needless to say, there is a lot of emotional content to this occasion. The Lancasters were Britain's mainstay heavy bombers in WW2. They evoke much the same response as Americans get from a fly-by by a B-17 or a B-24. The Avro Vulcan is an iconic flying machine that serves as a poignant reminder of a time when England was a major player in aircraft design, with a number of aircraft companies who have since fallen by the wayside. (The once and future UK aerospace industry may yet lead the world again.)
For those not fortunate enough to be in the British Isles for this, here's some video.
