So many cops and conservatives will give anything a try to libel Michael Brown.  It's the classic "blame the victim" form of racism.  They can't stand the idea that perhaps a white cop committed a crime.  They will do anything to detract and defame, including making stuff up. Kos wrote about the lengths that conservatives will go to "smear Michael Brown"

So, the CT scans of Darren Wilson's head presented as fact by conservatives are in reality fake. Well, not fake.  They are real CT scans of an eye socket injury.  It's just not Darren Wilson's eye socket.

As if that piece of Reich Wing propaganda was not enough, a Kansas City police officer, Marc Catron, posted a picture on the "Support Darren Wilson" Facebook page proclaiming it to be of Michael Brown.  The photo is of an African-American guy pointing a gun with a wad of cash in his mouth.  The officer wrote this caption:

“I’m sure Michael Brown is innocent and just misunderstood. I’m sure he’s a pillar of the Ferguson community.”
Obviously, it was an attempt to libel Michael Brown to help the cause of fellow police officer Darren Wilson.  The guy in the photo may perhaps vaguely resemble Michael Brown in the eyes; however, it is obviously not Michael Brown.  Officer Catron likely thought that people would not notice.  Perhaps "they all look alike" to officer Catron??

The problem is, apparently "they all look alike" to a number of conservative trolls that have been spamming the photo on Facebook as the real McCoy. Here is a screen grab by one such Wilson supporter:

Officer Catron has been discredited by an Oregon news station.

The article makes it seem as though it was just an accident on the part of Catron. What is concerning is the fact that the KC Police Department calls this deliberate attempt to libel Brown "an internal personnel issue".

Sun Aug 24, 2014 at 12:37 PM PT: A number of people are asking for various links (RW sites with the bogus CT scans, etc).  Everything is linked in the diary, including the Oregon news report about the fake picture of Michael Brown as posted by Officer Catron.

I also wanted to add some things to the diary that I addressed in the comment section regarding Officer Catron posting the "wrong" picture of Michael Brown:

I think they [conservatives] either don't know what Brown actually looks like or it's the all black people look alike kind of thing. It demonstrates the intent of the police officer, since it does not resemble Michael Brown.  How could it be a mistake if they look different? So, either the cop thinks all black people look alike and got confused or he was intentionally race baiting and libeling Michael Brown.

Either way, it should not be just an "internal personnel issue."

That cop's actions are a proxy of his character and his integrity as a cop.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

CT scan made it clear that this was an example of what an image of an eye socket injury would look like. The image had a date and place stamp that was clearly visible. As I recall the image was taken at the University of Iowa. It was never presented as anything other than an example. What others did with the image once it was online is another subject.

look a thing like him. I could tell it wasn't him even after taking off my glasses and I'm blind without them.

Are the people who think this is Michael Brown just easily confused or hallucinating?

No, it doesn't look like him.

I think they either don't know what Brown actually looks like or it's the all black people look alike kind of thing.  But, to your point.  It demonstrates the intent of the police officer, since it does not resemble Michael Brown.  How could it be a mistake if they look different? That picture.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A Kansas City police officer is facing an internal review after mixing up a picture of Oregon murder defendant Joda Cain with Ferguson shooting victim Michael Brown.
Officer Marc Catron posted the wrong picture on social media and wrote, “I’m sure Michael Brown is innocent and just misunderstood. I’m sure he’s a pillar of the Ferguson community.”
Cain and Micus Ward are accused of killing their great-grandmother Jacqueline Bell in October 2013. Attorneys for Ward on Tuesday said he is “intellectually disabled” and therefore not eligible for the death penalty, if convicted of the aggravated murder.

  •  Same thing happened to Trayvon Martin (6+ / 0-)

Someone published a picture of a huge black man (obviously an adult) with tattoos all over his forearms and claimed that instead of Trayvon being a slight teenager in a hoodie, this "scary" dude was Trayvon and how he "really" looked.  It wasn't him, of course.  Their faces looked nothing like each other with the exception of one characteristic.  And I'll bet you can guess what that common characteristic is.

    •  They certainly go to great length (4+ / 0-)

      to smear Brow, don't they?
They take it as fact that he was involved in a 'strong armed' robbery.
Every RW site I have  visited the words are quoted verboten.
The racists rants are absolutely horrible.
Many people think any Black person gunned down by the police deserve it. Including the brutal break up of any peaceful protest done by either Black people or those on the left.
Yet, the police never show up in riot gear when it from the GOP people.
      I find that fact unbelievable.

  •  I got a chain email with this very picture in it, (4+ / 0-)

along with sarcastic remarks about the (alleged) character of Michael Brown.

A relative, who is a cop, sent it to me.

I sent a message back to him with links to a few news stories showing that the picture was not one of Michael Brown and that the Kansas City cop who apparently originally posted the image to Facebook and claiming that it was Michale Brown (from which it spread like wildfire) had been disciplined for posting it.

The chain email had the email addresses of many other people to whom, in several levels of forwarding, it had also been sent.  I copied and pasted all of the addresses and pasted them into the cc field of my reply message.

I fear that, in most cases, it probably will not make a difference, but I wanted them all to at least have the chance to learn the truth.

There are some really sick people in this society.

      •  No responses. (0+ / 0-)

I normally ignore such chain emails, but in this case, I thought that the dead kid's character deserved that all of the recipients see the real facts.

One other time, with another relative, I Replied to All.  That other chain email related to Barack Obama's alleged birth in Kenya.  This was in the Fall of 2008.

The relative in question was outraged that I had Replied to All, and accused me of lording my supposedly superior intellect over her and embarrassing her in front of other family members and friends of hers.  I sent her a reply trying to make peace, but she told me never to contact her again.

I tried sending her a brief message wishing her a happy birthday a few months later.  She ignored that message,  So, we have had no further communications.

        Sad.

at a hospital, even in a lowly service position, I know that the only way a CT scan of Officer Wilson's head should appear on the web is if Officer Wilson posted it himself. The HIPPA regulations would bring significant harm to the hospital, and the employee releasing the information would no doubt be fired. We can't even say anything to anyone about who we see as a patient at the hospital. When I see someone I know in the cafeteria, and they tell me which relative they are visiting, and that it is ok for me to tell others, I don't. It is just that serious!

  •  Wilson Injuries (0+ / 0-)

The right wing media is all over the place with the fact (we are told) that Officer Wilson was taken to the hospital
with facial injuries. To contrast that with, I guess, that Michael Brown had no injuries that required hospitalization.
