This Thursday, come and let the North Carolina Republican thugocracy know: we will move our state Forward Together - Not One Step Back!
North Carolina continues to kick up some dust and show the rest of the Union how to stand up for what's right.
Capping off the second year of the NC NAACP's Moral Mondays fusion politics movement under the inspiring leadership of Rev. Dr. William Barber II, this past week has seen six consecutive days of The Jericho March around Raleigh's state house by passionately committed activists of every race, color, age, sexual orientation, belief, employment, and income. The themes of these six days have included:
- 8/22: Labor Rights, Fair and Living Wages, and Economic Justice [photo diary]
- 8/23: Education and Criminal Justice [photo diary]
- 8/24: Equal Protection Under the Law
- 8/25: Youth
- 8/26: Women's Rights [photo diary]
- 8/27: Health Care and Environmental Justice
Tomorrow, August 28th, will be the seventh and final day of the Jericho March:
And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
This final day of the Moral Week of Action will see yet more deeply moving
speechifyin' (3:30 to 5:00 PM) on the Bicentennial Mall (16 W. Jones, Raleigh),
movement music (5:00 to 5:30 PM), a
massive voting rights rally on the Mall honoring the 51st anniversary of Dr. King's March On Washington and featuring a stirring
Charge to Action by Rev. Barber (5:30 to 7:00 PM), and a
Sit-Out at the state capitol building with teach-ins and performances (7:00 PM till the walls come tumblin' down).
The first six days of the Jericho March were intentionally intimate affairs, scaled to fit within a news bite. But this seventh and final day will be different. We need your body, and - more importantly - your beautiful righteousness. And you need this spiritual recharge in the run-up to the all-important date of November 4th.
Y'all c'mon down, hear? But if you can't, take heart: this isn't the end of Moral Action. It's only the beginning.
