Noting British plans to address citizens who leave the U.K. to become terrorists, [Fox host Greg Gutfeld] then asked Fox’s Kimberly Guilfoyle about whether measures can be implemented “without so-called violating their civil liberties.” Guilfoyle responded:That's right, if only Vladimir Putin were the U.S. president, he could take his shirt off and solve terrorism in two days.
“Guess what, I don’t care. And in fact, I hope we violate a lot of their civil liberties. […]
“I mean, can I just make a special request in the magic lamp? Can we get like Netanyahu and like Putin in for 48 hours, you know, head of the United States? I don’t know. I just want somebody to get in here and get it done right.”
Mind you, this is the same crowd that thinks President Barack Obama is destroying the republic via his heavy-handed signings of things and executive orders of things—he's so out of control that he may have to be impeached, if John Boehner's lawsuit doesn't work out. But what America really needs is someone who would, um, ignore our laws entirely, just for a little while, and just for the laws that a roundtable comprised of panicking Fox News pundits decides they don't like. (The video of this exchange, by the way, is horrifying, and is exactly what you would expect American television to look like if cocaine and fascism had their own network.)
True patriots, this lot. But I think the Fox News graphics department needs to add more flags—there's not nearly enough flags yet. Discussions about how an authoritarian strongman could really clean things up by clamping down on civil liberties need to have a lot more flags waving around.
