Antonio French (@AntonioFrench), an Alderman of the @21stWard in St. Louis, has started a community organizing activity called healSTL (Turning a moment into a movement). They have rented a storefront location in Ferguson, and are focusing efforts on getting the local community registered to vote.
I assume that they will be working on other things, but it seems the initial focus is on getting the community active and involved in their own destiny.
They need some help, more below the doodle.
Today was their first day in residence at the office (although they have not officially opened yet).
For those of you have would like to help support their efforts, but do not live close enough to help in person, they have created an Amazon Registry/Wish list.
If you are so inclined, and have the funds to help out, you can buy items and have them sent to their office.
The office/ship to address is:
Heal STL
Attn: Antonio French
9171 W. Florissant
St. Louis, MO, 63136, United States
They have a mix of items on their request list, from highlighters & clipboards to iPADs, and a bunch of stuff in between.
I am leaning towards sending them an Amazon Gift Card, so that they can put it towards the purchase of some of the more expensive items.
I think it would be a good idea to indicate through Amazon that this is a gift, and have a gift card attached indicated you heard about it at DKOS. I think you may be able to do this with no charge (but I have not confirmed).
There is also a method to indicate that you have purchased something on the wish list from another source (in case you don't want to shop at Amazon, but want to help healSTL in tracking that they are getting what they need).
I am not associated with this organization in any way, I just wanted to bring this to the community's attention.
You can find them on twitter at either #healSTL or @healSTL

I will not be able to monitor/respond to the comments for very long tonight, I am leading a workshop tomorrow. Will check in after work tomorrow.
Thanks for anything you can do to help this effort.
