Alexander Jaffe, of
The Hill, wonders if there is
new evidence coming in Chris Christie's Bridgegate scandal?
In a respite for addicts of news about N.J. Governor Chris Christie's alleged involvement in the George Washington Bridge lane closure, and cover-up, who have been languishing in the summer doldrums with little news, we learn the N.J. investigative panel is issuing a subpoena for records of all calls and text messages between Christie and his liaison at the time Regina Egea.
But the legislative panel is subpoenaing AT&T for records of all calls and texts during the month of December between Christie and Regina Egea. Egea was the governor’s liaison to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls the bridge.
Egea told the panel last month that she had texted Christie following a hearing in December at which Port Authority workers refuted what was then the official explanation for the closures, to conduct a traffic study. ... also reveal[ing] they were told by a Port Authority official appointed by Christie not to alert Fort Lee officials to the closures in advance.
That text, however, was not turned over to the legislative panel investigating the closures. Egea said at last month’s hearing she deleted it — an unusual move, as New Jersey law requires officials to maintain records of such communications.
Jaffee tells us that Egea's admission raises questions about what other communications may have been deleted.
Democratic assemblyman John S. Wisniewski, the co-chairman of the legislative committee finds the simultaneous deletions of the email to be “curious.”
“It’s a curious occurrence where two high-profile figures simultaneously delete the same text message. It could be nothing, but it seems curious because a whole lot of other things weren’t deleted,” he said.
Curious indeed.
What was the name of that mouth mint that advertised itself as "curiously refreshing?"
May I speak on behalf of all Christiegate "addicts" when I ask, "is it wrong that I'm smiling?" and find this news to be "curiously refreshing."
That smile of relief that the world has not forgotten during this long difficult summer of distractions, that the "alleged perpetrator" is still out campaigning to be the Republican nominee - as if everyone will forget.
Well we haven't forgotten Christie. In the words of the famous Monty Python sketch - "this investigation is not dead, just resting!"
I'll take a look for other tidbits I may have missed during my move to Florida and vacations.
