Dems paint GOP as shutdown party
by Burgess Everett, politico.com -- August 27, 2014
[...]
In fundraising requests, media appearances and conference calls, Democrats are painting Republicans as the “shutdown party” just in time for the midterm elections that coincidentally hit right after the one-year anniversary of last year’s October shutdown.
[...]
Of course, the Democratic strategy is less overt -- White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Wednesday it’d be a “shame” if the government shuts down over immigration. But Democrats are giddily presenting the possibility of a replay of last year’s shutdown, which hurt Republicans politically, hoping to nationalize Senate races and present a Democratic Senate as essential to keeping the government running.
[...]
McConnell “repeatedly threatened to shut down the government unless Republicans get exactly what they want,” said Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) on Wednesday. Rubio, she added, wants to “essentially bludgeon the president into submission over immigration policy.”

Representative Steve King of Iowa put the Shutdown threat even more bluntly ...
Steve King: 'All Bets Are Off' On Government Shutdown If Obama Acts On Immigration
by Igor Bobic, The Huffington Post -- August 27, 2014

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said that "all bets are off" about the fate of a continuing resolution to fund the government if President Barack Obama decides to unilaterally take action to provide deportations relief for undocumented immigrants.
"If the president wields his pen and commits that unconstitutional act to legalize millions, I think that becomes something that is nearly political nuclear," King said, according to the Des Moines Register. "I think the public would be mobilized and galvanized and that changes the dynamic of any continuing resolution and how we might deal with that."

Perhaps we should be prepared to meet their outrage, with similar outrage?
Arbitrarily sending "human rights refugees" back into the clutches of their criminal abusers -- used to be just the kind of issue the Democratic Party would rise up -- and take a stand AGAINST.
The Democratic Party needs to become that Party of basic "Human Compassion" once again.
"Helping people" and protecting "Human Dignity" is supposed to be what makes us different, from the anti-society, anti-worker, pro-corporations, Shut-Everything-Down Party.
It's hard to believe the GOP even wants to "go there" again, considering how well it worked out for them -- "Shutting Down the Government" did, the first time around.
Then again people don't call them the clown-car crazy-train Party -- without just cause.
How GOP frustration could produce another government shutdown
by Paul Waldman, Plum Line; washingtonpost.com -- August 28, 2014
[...]
The problem for Republicans is that if they threaten a government shutdown over executive authority on deportations, the substance of their argument will almost inevitably be swamped by the drama of the event. We won’t be talking nearly as much about “Is the president overstepping his authority?” as about “Holy cow, the government might shut down again!”
And for that, Republicans have no one to blame but themselves. They initiated a new era of procedural radicalism when Obama was elected -- filibustering nearly every bill of any consequence, holding up executive branch nominations for years, refusing to approve debt ceiling increases, and shutting down the government once already. Each new confrontation serves to reinforce the public’s belief that the GOP is the party that just wants to burn the whole place down.
While there is certainly some political danger for Democrats in whatever policy changes Obama undertakes, some Republicans can’t seem to remember that they always lose these confrontations. But they’re hemmed in by their own pattern of behavior. [...]

They rightly deserve "the heat" for The GOP Shutdown (Round I) -- lest the American people forget "what nice guys -- they're NOT!"
"They wouldn't help a single soul, if it were entirely up to them" ... It's up to Democrats and Independents to make sure it doesn't come to that ... as per USA usual.
