Gregory and Todd are certainly no Bernstein and Woodward (see picture above). In the wake of David Gregory being bounced from Meet The Press - following awful ratings that many believe stem from being a RNC Chairman Reince Preibus impersonator - will his replacement Chuck Todd step up?
In an effort to be fair and balanced, will Todd (and other main stream moderators) hammer away at Rand Paul's almost religious fanaticism of Ayn Rand and the "Randian" bible "Atlas Shrugged?" Ron Paul and Paul Ryan need to be blasted, too. These men all have or have had presidential aspirations.
If Karl Marx represents the extreme left, Ayn Rand is the messiah of the extreme right-wing ideology that many believe is barbaric and evil - Objectivism. Marxism and Objectivism need to both become perjoratives that will help voters make a quick judgement on a prospective elected official. Objectivism is not an obscure notion that can easily be discarded. It is at the core of Reagan's trickle-down economics, the economic system that has been in place for 34 years and ruined the lifestyle of the middle-class. This is serious.
Journalists from the New York Times to Forbes Magazine have pestered President Obama about being a Socialist. Many have repeated republican talking points and have attacked liberals as Marxists, also. As far back as Franklin Delano Roosevelt, liberals have taken hits for lefty affiliations. In 1972, George Mcgovern was attacked for his support of Henry Wallace, the former vice-president under FDR that was an architect of the New Deal. Damn Wallace for leading the charge for Social Security, Minimum Wage, Securities Exchange Commission and the NLRB.
If journalists can assist republicans in creating the narrative that socialism (the New Deal) is bad, then surely they can call out advocates of Objectivism - a powerful belief system (largely undefined to most people due to cowardly journalism) that led to Reaganomics, Alan Greenspan, Larry Summers, and others. This belief with its destructive policies ultimately led to the slow death of the greatest middle-class in history. Extreme greed is never good.
This is where Chuck Todd enters the picture and all hope appears lost. Todd infamously said it is not media's job to correct GOP's Obamacare falsehoods. Can you imagine Woodward and Bernstein saying, "You know what - let the democrats break the Watergate scandal. It is is not my job." How about Walter Cronkite not reporting nightly on soldiers killed in Vietnam because, "That's the anti-war movement's job."
Is Todd afraid he will no longer be able to play with the "popular" boys in the D.C. beltway, like Joe Scarborough, David Gregory, and the guys at Politico? Is he afraid he will not be invited to jam on his french horn in Scarbourough's rock band? Is he afraid that Rush Limbaugh will continue to call him F*** Chuck Todd? Chuck, be brave and do your freaking job. Be somebody, not just a mamby pamby for the right.
The country is swirling down the drain because of conservatism and it's cousin Objectivism, while the media has taken a 34-year timeout doing fair and balanced reporting on supply side economics (Objectivism or trickle-down or Reaganomics - whatever you may want to call it).
As distinguished journalist Edward R. Murrow said, "No one can terrorize a nation unless we are all accomplices." Todd, it is your job to make Ayn Rand a household name. Think Murrow, think Cronkite, think Bernstein...
Peace.
