Dementia - mental health changes - Better Health Channel
The doctor wasn't smiling. I had a call to visit her, so there I was. "How do think you
did in the nearly 4 hours of tests I gave you?"The doctor's question left no doubt how I did.
She was surprised how far I have fallen in 2 months. "Mike, I want you to be tested
by our driving people. Part of that test involves things your brain needs to do to drive well."
I will be 65 in October, I haven't been tested since I was 16 years old. I mentioned
I had no problem being tested. One time, years ago, I smashed into a lady who decided
to come to a complete stop on a road with a 40 miles per hour speed limit.
I was fined $75 dollars for falling too close. I wrecked her car and mine. Still, I don't
think that's too bad in almost 50 years of driving.
If you have Dementia, or know someone who does, let me give give some
tips.
There are many types of Dementia. The doctors
think my Dementia is associated with Parkinson's, but are not sure
I need to slow my brain down. I need to focus on one thing at a time. I know that
seems simple enough, for some of it's not. List's need to be carried all the time.
My address, phone number, I even ask myself where I'm going and what I need to do.
A few days ago, I wrote a diary here, in which I was wanted more blacks to vote in Missouri.I mentioned a passage from Dr.Martin Luther Kings famous letter
which he wrote while in jail. He was complaining about apathy.
After I printed the diary, I realized while reading it. I was all over the board.I was talking
about so many things, I had no idea what my point was. I pressed
the delete button quickly.
Learn to breath slowly and think one thought at a time. Dementia causes mood changes,
it makes some not pay attention to finance or proper eating. Some patients do in-appropriate things.
I am being told to talk louder and focus on one subject at a time. So I may or may
not be able to help other people with my disease.
I used to write somewhere as the 'pregnant man'. I lost over 100 lbs and I like to
think I helped others. I don't want to be the "dementia Man." I am going to run longer,
faster, eat better, and work at being a better person.
I have learned about Dementia, and Parkinson's. Don't be afraid to ask a lay person
who has these issues.
I still know who I am. I will help others say fxxk you to these labels.
let's go fight Republican's.
