Apparently, Ted Cruz hasn't been paying attention, and doesn't realize the Bronx has made great improvements in the last few years. Perhaps if he took his head out of his ass, he would.
During a speech at the the conservative group Americans For Prosperity's Defending The American Dream Summit in Dallas, Cruz implied the Bronx is a dangerous area while mocking Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for his positions on border security.
"Now, I understand that Manhattan is very concerned with their security with the Bronx, but it's a little bit different on 2,000 miles of the Rio Grande"
I think I liked Ruben Diaz's comment the most.
"Ted Cruz's willingness to traffic in the outdated stereotypes of past decades is disgusting, and is totally devoid of truth. The Bronx has seen unprecedented positive growth in recent years, and Senator Cruz's infantile attempt to score cheap political points by slandering our borough is revolting, and unworthy of the title of United States Senator. Grow up, Senator Cruz"
I do like people jumped him for his comment. It also tickles me that Mahen Gunaratna, an aide to Mayor Bill de Blasio, and Diaz's spokesman, John DeSio, pointed out that Texas has its own issues with crime (ex: Dallas has higher murder rate than Bronx; Texas has higher rate of violent crime than NYC, etc). You can see the numerous tweets within the article linked.
I'd love to see Ted Cruz apologize for his mischaracterization of the Bronx, but that'll never happen. Maybe he'll learn to keep his mouth shut. Maybe he'll learn not to fuck with New York.
Or not. This is Ted Cruz, after all.
