Apparently Texas Gov. Rick Perry was enjoying a little gubernatorial downtime this Labor Day weekend when a terrible thing happened. A Bad Tweet. You know the kind -- thoroughly tasteless mad frat boy humor unbecoming a holder of high elected office and, needless to say, quite unpresidential.
But, you be the judge:
The lady in the photo, of course, is Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg (D) who got herself into a little drunken driving trouble for which she was ultimately convicted. Gov. Perry thought that was sufficient reason for DA Lehmberg to resign her office but Lehmberg, herself, thought otherwise. Whereupon the governor decided to defund Lehmberg's public integrity unit with a budget line-item veto.
A Texas grand jury was convened in Austin (a Democratic stronghold, it should be said), and that jury decided to indict Gov. Perry on two felony counts -- abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant -- for threatening Lehmberg's unit.
[Just to set the record straight: it was a grand jury that indicted Gov. Perry, NOT Lehmberg, as the twitter pic implies.]
Needless to say, Perry and Lehmberg don't see eye to eye and, what's the Twitter for, anyway, if not for a little fun-loving character assassination of a person that you are under indictment for coercing?
Someone in the Perry camp had the presence of mind to pull the thing quickly off Twitter but, as we all know, there's no such thing as full digital erasure.
Perry tweeted the standard "unauthorized use of my account" statement:
But, bless his heart, I'm afraid I have to ask the big question: If the man can't control his own Twitter account do we really want him serving as Commander-in-Chief?
Just sayin' . . .
