ADP: 204,000 new private-sector jobs created in August: Automatic Data Processing, the payroll services company, reported Thursday that the economy produced a seasonally adjusted 204,000 new private-sector jobs last month. Carlos Rodriguez, ADP's president and CEO, said, “August marks the fifth straight month of employment gains above 200,000, continuing an encouraging trend for the U.S. labor market.” Unlike the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which will report its tally of newly created jobs Friday, ADP does not count public-sector jobs.
Service-providing jobs increased by 164,000, down from 190,000 in July, ADP reported. Good-producing jobs increased by 41,000, up from 23,000 in July. The count showed 51,000 jobs in professional/business services, 28,000 in trade and transportation, 23,000 in manufacturing (the highest level since December 2012), 15,000 in construction, and 5,000 in financial activities.
ADP calculations only occasionally mesh with the BLS's count of private-sector job creation.
