First of all, thanks A&E for unleashing these guys on us. No, really thank you. I mean it. They're like a right wing Kardashian clan. I needed that in my life. I really, really really did.
Now that these folks are "famous" the Robertson clan has been
using their "celebrity" until it disappears ubiquitous in the media. I don't even have cable television and
I know about these yahoos from Louisiana. They are apparently quite conservative and Christian. They are a perfect fit for Fox News.
I don't know their names. I think one is called "Uncle Brother"? I could make a bunch of poor white trash comments about them but that would be racist and prejudiced.
I try not to judge without knowing all the facts. Its just that, in this case, I don't care to know the facts.
Except that I believe this one to be true. I don't care what you say!
This just has to be what they looked like before getting all bearded up
for the teevee for whatever reason.
Anyway, these loons appear on my news radar with alarming frequency lately.
I thought I would take a look at what the Robertons are doing as of late. Just cuz, yanno, I have the time to reflect and write a diary.
So, here goes nuthin'.
(This is totally pieced together from a patchwork of sources and is almost certainly a biased left-wing loon's account)
The World According To "Duck Dynasty"
Theology
So this is a self professed Christian clan. Cool with me. I know and even love many Christians. I like this Christ of whom they speak. From what I gather, the guy was a dirty fuckin hippy who was all about peace, love and forgiveness.
It seems to me that these folks, however, are of a different more fundamentalist bent. I'm thinking Dominionist, fire and brimstone here.
Some have called their theology “proof-texting", citing a number of Biblical verses that support one's position without considering the context and possible alternative interpretations of said verses.
Of course, this cuts both ways. There are plenty of peace, love and forgiveness verses in the book as well. (see: dirty fuckin hippy ...)
Anyway, here's an example:
Roberston quoted several Bible passages to support his strategy.
“Worldwide, planet-wide, Biblically speaking, [there are] two groups of people – the children of God and the whole world is under the control of the evil one,” he said. “That’s 1 John 5:19.
Ephesians 2 says: The evil one works in those who are disobedient. Galatians 3: They are prisoners of sin. Second Timothy 2: The Bible says they’ve been taken captive by Satan to do his will.”
One of these guys thought that Christians should take their non-believing friends to see the upcoming Nicholas Cage version of Left Behind. He said it would help convert "non-believers".
He recorded a short video posted to the film's Facebook page. (No, I will not link!)
“Like most Christians, my family and I can truly say that we’re excited about the soon return of Jesus, and I’m sure, if you’ve been watching the news lately, you know that that return could be any day from now."
Oh, and at least one of them thinks that we should "convert or kill" any members of ISIS. Seems kinda Old Testament to me or even, heaven forbid, radically violent like ISIS itself.
I would like to note here that he was on the show to pimp promote his new book, “unPHILtered: The Way I See It". (Again, no I will not link.)
LGBT Relations
Yeah, this maybe could be a subset of theology but it deserves its own section. Apparently, one of them caused quite a stir for sharing his views on teh gayz. I think he might have been given a timeout for that one.
Apparently these guys are big enough to warrant a spot on "Good Morning America". I know its tabloid morning teevee but its network tabloid morning teevee.
"I’m as much of a homophobe as Jesus was. People who are participating in homosexual behavior, they need to know that I love them.”
Robertson also attempted to justify his worldview by claiming that The Bible contains the only tangible answer to the "question" of homosexuality.
(For the Record: this is Jesus' take on homosexuality)
On Being Celebrities
The world can rest easily now. One of them is going to be on "Dancing With the Stars", alongside Tommy Chong no less! (yay Tommy Chong!)
Season 4 of the show, the
stars cast members split $200,000.00 for each of the new episode produced.
That's a lot of basic cable dough.
Although I should note that the family's net worth (some say its over $500 million) comes mainly from their businesses, whatever it is they do.
And that's about it. Maybe my sources random internet searches for "Duck Dynasty on Being a Celebrity" just don't have enough of an in with the Robertsons to get good quotes?
Yeah, that's gotta be it!
Now, if I can just figure out why Americans care so much about these folks, I can get back to something more important. What the Kardashians are up to?
Oh, same diary? Awesome!
Save's me some time.
(Yes, this turned out to be a total waste of everyone's time. Happy Friday!)
Anybody know who's on Hannity tonight?
