WOW!!!!!!
125 diaries here at the Great Orange Satan. I thought I would take a moment to look back, look forward and ponder what I have done here.
But first, some vital stats:
PROFILE:
diarist -- gravlax (I thought the name was appropriately whimsical)
uid --- 189368 (I remember thinking it was obscenely high back in the day)
joined --- October 7, 2008 (I was moved by the Presidential race)
comments --- 1743 (ZERO HR's)
diaries --- 125 (in 6 years, not bad)
Rescued --- 23 (Thank you Rescue Rangers, remember them?)
Recommended --- 10 (Not bad for a guy who comes and goes)
Obviously, this is a very personal diary, one for myself and both of my followers. I don't expect eyeballs and recs but I hope that you might read through my ramblings here.
Thanks,
John
LOOKING BACK
First, there is my "most recommended diary",
The 1% more likely to lie, cheat, and steal. Science says so.
I am both proud of and a little embarrassed by this one. The title is just catchy enough to get eyeballs and I guess I was greedy for recs that day.
More than one commenter pointed out that I misused the term science in the title. Guilty as charged.
I still stand by the gist of the diary though. Two studies looked at social mores by class and the likeliness to blur the lines of social conduct.
I invite you to read and share your comments on it.
Next, there is my "least recommended diary", Republican 'Idol': There Can Be Only One.
I am even prouder of this diary than I am of the "most recced" and I am very sad that it didn't get eyeballs. Eh, c'est la guerre I s'pose.
Still, please read and let me know what you think. I loved that diary and thought it was pretty damn funny. Of course, DKos showed me.
Just one in a string of humbling moments around here.
Finally, a rundown of some of my better work, as judged me of course.

LOOKING FORWARD
Where Will You Go From Here gravlax?
I don't really know. I have written a lot about 2 things here, food and sports. I guess that will continue to be my beat.
Of course those are two huge subjects to cover in my humble opinion.
I would also like to think that I will do some more humor and maybe even a touch of meta as time progresses.
Food
Food is more than just what you eat. Food is about hunger issues, sustainability, the ecology and the planet.
Food is about the Farm Bill, SNAP, WIC and CHIP. These are the programs that feed us and especially those most in need. Food is about how we take care of each ourselves and each other.
I have spent a lot of my life in kitchens. I care deeply about food. I care deeply about taking care of others. I care deeply about taking care of the people who are cooking, serving and cleaning up after our meals.
Sports
Sports is more than just stats and scores. Sports is big business. Sports is how some of us spend our free time. Sports is a mirror for US society.
Sports is a lens through which to view society. Sports is Jason Collins and Michael Sam. Sports is the NCAA and how amateur student athletes are treated. Sports is how former NFL players with CTE are treated.
I have been a sports fan most of my life. I think that the discussions that we have about sports can open up a window into larger issues.
FINAL REFLECTIONS
Obviously, I joined in the election year that brought us President Barack Hussein Obama.
I lurked for a long time before I joined but I liked what I found here.
I found a community that cared about progressive ideals and Democratic politics. I stayed for the pie.
I have floated in and out of life here at DKos.
Often I lurk. When issues arise, I come back to comment and diary. When the Meta Wars flare up, I take breathers.
I'm not sure what my next diary here will be. It may come today or it may come months from now. Only time will tell.
I leave you with this. When injustice strikes, I will be there. When danger rears its ugly head, I will be there. When it comes time to rally the base, I will be there.
When it is time to vote for good Democrats, I will be there too!
