Tonight voters in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island go to the polls for state and federal party primaries, while New York will hold a primary for state-level offices only (the federal primary was in June). Delaware is also up, but there isn't much to see there.
Our guide to the key races can be found here. Polls start to close in New Hampshire at 7 PM ET, and we'll be bringing you tonight's results as they come in. You can keep track of the winners just below.
Results & Poll Closing Times (all times Eastern):
7:53 PM PT: SD-11: Right now, this looks like the biggest question mark of the night. IDC member Avella is clinging to a 51-49 lead over Liu, with about half in.
7:58 PM PT: SD-14: WNYC has called the Democratic primary for Leroy Comrie, who leads incumbent Malcolm Smith 70-20. Smith tried getting the Republican nomination last year for mayor, and has been facing legal troubles ever since.
8:14 PM PT (Steve Singiser): SD-11: With nearly three quarters of the vote in, Liu is still tantalizingly close to IDC member Tony Avella. Avella's lead has grown slightly, but still sits at 52-48, a raw vote margin of just 446 votes.
8:15 PM PT (Steve Singiser): SD-34: With half of the vote in, IDC leader Jeffrey Klein looks like a pretty safe bet to hang onto the Democratic nomination. He leads Oliver Koppell by a 62-38 margin.
8:25 PM PT (Steve Singiser): SD-19: Both the AP and WNYC called the Democratic primary for John Sampson. He wins, at present, with 55 percent of the vote to just 30 percent for Dell Smitherman.
8:25 PM PT (David Nir): So 2014 ends with no Senate incumbents losing renomination and only four members of the House going down to defeat in primaries: Ralph Hall (TX-04), Eric Cantor (VA-07, hahahah), Kerry Bentivolio (MI-11), and John Tierney (MA-06). All but Tierney are Republicans. However, Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie of Hawaii lost a primary last month, and Reps. Mike Honda (CA-17) and Vance McAllister (LA-05) still face intra-party challengers in the November election.
8:42 PM PT: The liveblog is still going strong tonight, and we'll be seeing how the Avella-Liu race shakes out. I'm turning the helm over to Steve Singiser but personally signing out.
This has been a great primary season and I've enjoyed every second of writing the primary previews and doing these liveblogs. Thank you all for reading, and see you back Nov. 4!
8:48 PM PT (Steve Singiser): SD-60: It's been heading that way all night, but still worthy of a "whoa." Kevin Stocker, who got smooshed just two years ago in a bid to win the GOP nomination for this seat, has unseated Republican incumbent Sen. Mark Grisanti by a 58-42 margin.
8:52 PM PT (David Nir): The liveblog continues here.
