New York Times on
reports on the state of mind of congressional leaders as President Obama begins to make the case for military strikes against ISIS/ISIL, including this appallingly honest quote from Rep. Jack Kingston of Georgia on what his colleagues—in particular those in the GOP—are thinking:
“It’s an election year. A lot of Democrats don’t know how it would play in their party, and Republicans don’t want to change anything. We like the path we’re on now. We can denounce it if it goes bad, and praise it if it goes well and ask what took him so long.”
It's not appalling that Kingston spoke honestly. It's appalling because what he said is true. The only question is which outcome they're rooting for.
