From the GREAT STATE OF MAINE…
Today's Boring Correction
In calling for a boycott of the Target chain of stores because the company now supports marriage rights for same-sex couples, the American Family Association writes:
[E]very Christian in this nation should let Target know it is out of step with the majority of Americans who support natural marriage.
Let's check some 2014 poll results and see what percent of Americans are for marriage equality and against it:
Gallup: 55% For vs. 42% Against. Money quote: Same-Sex Marriage Support Reaches New High.
McClatchy-Marist: 54% For vs. 38% Against. Money quote: A solid majority support same-sex marriage, confirming the fast-turning tide that’s started appearing over the last three years.
CBS News: 54% For vs. 39% Against. Money quote: Hispanics are more in step with a majority of Americans on the issue of same sex marriage. More Hispanics think same-sex marriage should be legal (50 percent) than not legal (44 percent).
ABC News-Washington Post: 56% For vs. 38% Against. Money quote: [A] solid majority supports it, and half go so far as to say that it is a right protected by the Constitution’s Equal Protection clause…
Bloomberg National: 55% For vs. 36% Against. Money quote: Only 18 percent of Americans say they’d like to live in a state that makes it tougher on gays to marry.
In fact, it is the American Family Association that is out of step with the majority of Americans. Being such sticklers for not bearing false witness against their neighbors, we're sure they regret the error.

Note: Tomorrow is Kos's birthday. Just so we don’t both get him the same thing: I bought him a Tickle Me Karl Marx action figure with freedom-strangling grip and a copy of Das Kapital with a hidden dagger inside. Maybe you can get him some socks.

CHEERS to one super duper Tuesday. Primaries yesterday in five northeast states, and here are the only results I could make out on my TV screen in the backroom through plumes of cigar smoke and squiggly vapors comin' off our big-boy drinks:
• In New York, Democrats chose Republican-in-Democrat's-clothing Andrew Cuomo over novice Zephyr Teachout, but not by any margin he'll be bragging about anytime soon. The lieutenant governor is Kathy Hochul.
Also victorious: Darth Jeff and
the Daily Kos Elections Team.
• In New Hampshire, it'll be GOP carpetbagger Scott Bqhatevwr versus Dem incumbent Jeanne Shaheen in the U.S. Senate race. Republican Walt Havenstein will lose to Democrat incumbent Maggie Hassan in November.
• In Massachusetts, despite lobbying efforts on his behalf by Barney Frank and others, Democratic Congressman John Tierney of the 6th District got tossed out on his ear by Seth Moulton, who will be a more formidable challenger against Richard Tisei. And the next governor---assuming she learned the many lessons she needed to from her boneheaded loss to Scott Bqhatevwr in 2010---will be Martha Coakley, who faces Republican Charlie Baker and will have some coattails to ride in on, thanks to Deval Patrick.
• In Rhode Island's governor's race it'll be Raimondo vs. Fung which, coincidentally, was the name of the worst Godzilla spinoff ever.
• In Delaware, as usual, write-in candidate Joe Biden won every race, and at the moment he leads himself by a slim margin in the general.
But if you want to see all the results, you can't do better than the Daily Kos Elections team, who kept the fires burning last night and will post their thoughts in a bit. Congrats to all the winners. Tissues to all the losers. And Money money money to all the media outlets, who thank you for your business.
Make it snappy so I don't
miss "Modern Family."
JEERS to rattling the sabers and rallying the sheeple. War---what is it good for? I dunno, but we'll find out tonight when President Obama gives what the media are calling---say it with me---
The Most Important Address of His ENTIRE Presidency. Tonight at 9, Dr. Drone will lay out his strategy for letting Congress lay out a strategy for dealing with the terrorist group ISIS. Apparently the deaths of two American journalists require a full-scale mobilization of our military-industrial complex, while the horrendous daily death toll from the terrorist group known as Big Gun in our own country warrants a yawn. Pardon my cynicism, but our collective fears have been manipulated, prodded, poked and milked by D.C. for so long that I just can't get in the mood for more tin drives and victory gardens. For what it's worth, I have a suggestion for giving ISIS something to be
really scared about: send in the Ferguson PD.
P.S. Does anyone besides me remember why we created that massive Department of Homeland Security after we were attacked by ISIS al Qaeda? Sure doesn't seem like it.
Ike and Arnie.
CHEERS to the leader of Arnie's Army. Happy 85th birthday, Arnold Palmer, born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania in 1929. He won 4 Masters championships, a U.S. Open, and 2 British Opens. But that don't mean squat compared to his greatest achievement: being a shining example of the gentleman competitor. Oh, and this
is still funny:
1966 [F]or the first time in his life, Palmer’s plane is flown without him or his knowledge---pilot Darrell Brown flies it to Gettysburg to pick up President Dwight Eisenhower for a surprise visit. "I was oblivious to it all," Palmer says, "until I answered the door and found General Eisenhower standing there with an overnight bag. ‘Say, you wouldn’t have room to put up an old man for the night, would you?’ One of the nicest weekends of my life followed."
Extra points for being one of a vanishing breed known as a "Country Club Republican." In today's GOP, that's just a notch below "bleeding-heart liberal."
CHEERS to Internet Slowdown Day. In a show of geek/nerd solidarity in defense of maintaining and protecting net neutrality, today you'll see a lot of sites (including Daily Kos) participating in a symbolic day in the proverbial internet "slow lane"…
Life in the slow lane.
Maddening, ain't it.
Participating sites will display an "infinitely-loading site loading icon" to illustrate to visitors what the Web could be like if broadband providers are allowed to offer priority service as part of the upcoming Net neutrality rules. The companies and activist organizations---including the American Civil Liberties Union, Electronic Frontier Foundation and Greenpeace…Reddit, Foursquare, Vimeo, Wordpress and Boing Boing---will also call on visitors to contact their US representatives and officially protest the "fast lane" aspect of the potential new regulation that had originally been proposed by FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler as part of the new Net neutrality rules.
And in case that doesn't get our collective attention, internet slow lanes will also affect the online porn industry, which is why
they're joining the cause. Their icon will be a pair of boobs in mid-jiggle.
JEERS to a very bad bench warmer. Twenty-three years ago today, the Senate Judiciary Committee opened hearings on the nomination of Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. He was, of course, the first porn addict to be elevated to the nation's highest bench. And that's what I love about this country---our devotion to diversity.

CHEERS to cutting and running. Perhaps the only name that's become as hated as Bush and Cheney---besides Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Gonzales, Rove, Beck and Limbaugh---is "Diebold." Their voting machines were so hackable, so easily-manipulated, so blatantly crappy that it's no wonder Republicans loved them so much. Well, they've sold that division to some outfit in Nebraska that, for all we know, could be just as bad. Apparently Diebold used their own machines to allow their board of directors to decide the fate of the company. The final tally was 62% No to 1,129% yes.

And just one more…
Now accepting items for
bid in their annual auction.
CHEERS to riches beyond your wildest dreams. The online auctioneers have received a lot of cool donations for the Netroots Nation auction which starts on Tuesday, the proceeds of which support the annual convention and also the regional events throughout the year. Right now they're soliciting items to put on the block from We The People, and if you have something that might raise some coin, here's the donation procedure:
To donate an auction item, just click here to send in a description, along with a photo or link to a photo, if possible.
Or, if you'd rather the auctioneers do the posting for you, email Karen at this address:
Karen (at) netrootsnation.org. Many thanks for helping out. As for the bidding process itself, I'll make y'all a deal: you stay away from the vintage Eugene McCarthy campaign buttons, and I'll stay away from the autographed Ted Cruz evil-powered buttscratcher. Sounds fair to me!
Have a Wednesday of some repute. Floor's open...What are you cheering and jeering about today?
