As many of you know and as I've probably said countless times on my blogs, I've been unemployed for most of my adult life. That seems to be a pretty common theme among adults with disabilities. I've held a few short term jobs and have obtained glowing recommendations from all of them.
That doesn't really seem to matter much though when employers are always coming up with ridiculous requirements for jobs that wouldn't really require any experience at all. Something like GIS or digital cartography would normally require a bachelor's, but I managed to get by with a two week crash course in ArcMap some of the DBA skills I learned while going through my second degree program.
It's easy for others to tell those with disabilities they have it easy with all the programs and what not available to them, but that only shows how little they truly understand. Finding a job, even a low wage one, let alone keeping it can be a struggle for those with disabilities because very few employers, especially where I live, are willing to put up with our day to day things. You know, image and all. Hard work be damned.
So I guess I'll keep doing odd VHS capture and Photo Restoration jobs until a decent job comes along, though at this rate, it'll be never.
See you around,
Homer
