I've been stewing in my own juices since my last diary on this subject about the University of Wisconsin primate research program. http://www.dailykos.com/... and the more I learn, the more pissed off I get. Please see the links in my previous diary (Thanks, Little) if you can stomach them.
For background,
experiments, led by Dr. Ned Kalin, will take newborn rhesus macaque monkeys away from their mothers (who have been restrained or drugged against their will while their baby is removed). The defenseless baby monkeys are then sent to solitary confinement—where they are terrorized and exposed to anxiety-inducing stressors including live snakes, painful skin-punch biopsies, and stressful brain scans. After this relentless torture, they are killed before the age of two.
From the Primate Freedom Project:
I imagine you would have no need to know what a shuttlebox is, so I will explain. A shuttlebox is a cage with two compartments with a door between them. The floor of each side of the shuttlebox can be electrified. First one side is electrified and an animal receives a shock to his or her feet and jumps through the door. The floor in that side is then electrified and the animal jumps back through the door. The animal shuttles back and forth to avoid being shocked. Often both sides are electrified simultaneously so that the animal cannot avoid being shocked
More behind the orange rope to tie the hands of these sick, depraved "scientists".
The assboil (sorry, assboils, I know you are better than this) whose studies of primate attachment torture - er - theory were the precursor to Kalin's sick, sick methods, had this to say:
Harlow:
“The only thing I care about is whether a monkey will turn out a property I can publish. I don’t have any love for them. Never have. I don’t really like animals. I despise cats. I hate dogs. How could you like monkeys?” – Harry Harlow
Harlow died in 1981, and I have never, ever rejoiced in anyone's death. I'm just glad he died and his evil ways went with him. Except, he now has a protégé.
Repairing crumbling infrastructure costs money.
Education costs money.
Feeding the poor (including the employed poor) costs money.
Supporting unemployed people, who through no fault of their own, costs money.
Healthcare, despite the ACA costs money.
The underfunded VA costs money.
But! Our priorities are bombing the crap out of people with dark skins and names different than ours, and torturing sentient beings like monkeys (and bunnies and mice and rats and dogs and cats..) in the name of debunked science by ghouls who either get off on it or don't give a sh*it, that's where our tax dollars go.
