All day she stood guard. Hour after hour, from sunrise to sunset, never moving more than a few yards away from her post and only then to chase away intruders.

The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.

She fought them off from all directions.
She postured and puffed attempting to appear larger than tiny.
Alas when the giants moved in her fierce defenses proved lacking and the battle was lost.
She was forced to retreat to a nearby branch and watch as they pillaged her supplies.
Once the invaders had moved on she was back at her post faithfully defending her feeder.
Then something unusual happened. She sat at her post allowing another to drink.
She never attempted to chase her away but instead seemed to be keeping watch as she calmly and slowly drank.
Perhaps this was an old friend or fellow solider weathered and weary of the long flight to come.
She's back today. I'll miss her and the rest when they leave soon for warmer climates.
Your turn - What's up in your world?
