We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there “is” such a thing as being too late. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I'm exhausted already, folks. And I haven't even arrived yet.
Take for example this: Just two weeks ago, the PCM Calendar of Events was a mere shadow of what has been scheduled to date.
And I'm exhausted just thinking about Saturday through end of day Tuesday. Here's what I have committed to.
Saturday, September 20: Closing Plenary of the NYC
Climate Convergence with speakers:
Naomi Klein -- Author of This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate, No Logo, The Shock Doctrine
Jacqui Patterson -- NAACP Environmental & Climate Justice Program
Desmond D'Sa -- 2014 Goldman Prize recipient from South Africa
Olga Bautista -- Southeast Side Coalition Against Petcoke
Sunday, September 21: The People's Climate March: up at 5 to travel from the West Village to a pre-dawn pow-wow in Central Park of indigenous people from all over the world; early morning yoga in a midtown art gallery; back up to the Park to begin the 2-mile march, and an early evening meetup with NYC Kossacks and others from DK who are traveling to New York to March (please send me a Kos mail so I can give you information!).
About the March itself:
Today's climate movement is different from the one of decades past, and we want to make sure the People's Climate March tells the story of today's climate movement. To make that happen, we're trying something new and arranging the contingents of the march in a way that helps us thread our many messages together.
There are six themes, and you can see how they fit into the assembly area below - along with more specific meeting places for contingents complete with subway directions below that. If you're looking to march with a specific contingent, please show up early - and stay flexible, the march is going to be great wherever you are!
Monday, September 22: A 10 -12 meeting at the Harvard Club to strategize coverage of the UN Climate Talks with Climate Action Network, Sierra Club, and 350 organizers, then scooting downtown to participate in Flooding Wall Street.
Tuesday, September 23: The Harvard Club, beginning at 8:30 AM where media, NGOs and organizers will spend the day watching live streaming of the UN Climate Summit (I'm primary notekeeper of lst plenary beginning at 8:45).
I've got to say, that this event just seven days away is more exciting and more thrilling and more hopeful than any climate conference I have attended.
I feel totally inspired.
