Press release
Erick Wright for Congress
If you are like me you do not like, nor care to be misled. I am deeply bothered and concerned with the position of Representative Martha Roby's EPA and Clean Eater Act position. If her job description consists only on refusing to do her job she is a model politician for our current do nothing congress. I'm unaware if she believes that we the people cannot read. She has stated in multiple news outlets that the EPA is attempting a large government over reach that would place undue burdens on Alabamians and farmers. On the contrary, if one read the act in the proposed bill we would clearly see that the new proposal places no new burdens on farmers, agriculture, or Alabamians. The bill is similar to your normal everyday insurance policy it shows what it covers and it also shows what it excludes. In the exclusion portion, it explains that there would be no changes to every day farming or agriculture, it clarifies the changes the Supreme Court made of the Clean Water Act in 2001 and 2006. The exclusion portion reads, "Any normal farming activity that does not result in a point source discharge of pollutants into waters of the U.S. still does not require a permit."

“The release of the draft rule gets us one step closer to better defining Clean Water Act regulations in regard to wetlands. We are also pleased with the open process EPA has adopted, which invites the public, Congress and all interested parties to participate in the discussion. EPA’s draft science report last year showed many categories of wetlands, including prairie potholes, may be geographically isolated but are still connected to, and have a significant impact on, downstream waters.”[Press Release, 2014]
This is just another attempt to play on the emotions and fears of everyday Alabamians. Unfortunately, this time we shall not be fooled. We will stand on our values and know that we have a responsibility to ensure that Alabama stays beautiful for generations to come. Unlike Martha Roby, everyday Alabamains can not afford private resort fishing expeditions. We remember the first fishing holes, the first creeks and rivers our fathers and grandfathers took us to drop our first lines. We look forward to share in that same experience with our sons, daughters, and families. The changes to the Clear Water Act will send a bold message to big businesses that we have a standard in America; in Alabama, that you will not pollute our air nor damage are creeks, rivers and streams.
Trout Unlimited| Chris Wood, President and CEO
Today’s proposal speaks to the heart of the Clean Water Act—making rivers more fishable and swimmable. The waters affected by today’s proposal provide vital spawning and rearing habitat for trout and salmon. Simply stated, the proposal will make fishing better, and anglers should support it. Restoring protections to these waters ensures healthy habitat for fish and a bright future for anglers.”[Press Release, Blog, 2014]
A better leader to represent us in Washington would speak about what EPA changes do not address, such as our depleting groundwater from the second congressional district. Our water supply will not last another 50 years. The fight against the government and the EPA should be the lack of support for cities and the people that do not have the resources to combat this threat. We need a combination of government and private businesses investing in water reservoirs and studies to extend the lifespan of our water supplies. This is the greatest threat facing agriculture, farmers and cash strapped communities. We are tired of leaping from crisis to crisis with a congress that has been bought and sold by big businesses and with safe districts they no longer have to campaign for your vote. I would gladly debate Martha Roby, however, she will not debate with me. Simailar to our chicken Governor, accountablity is dead. November 4th vote for what's right!
