Scottish independence polls
Today, Scotland goes to the polls to vote on whether or not to become a separate country. The United Kingdom has agreed to accept Scotland's independence should a majority vote in favor. Here's the place to talk about tonight's results. Polls close at 10 PM local time, which is 5 PM on the East Coast.
In the chart above, we have a trendline of all the referendum polls from January on, created by Drew Linzer. (The underlying data is here.) The undecideds are not included. The "no" side (which wants to keep Scotland in the UK) has consistently led all year, but the margin has tightened considerably since August. The polls still point to a narrow victory for opponents, but it's close enough that we could be in for an unpredictable night.
9:52 AM PT: This is very cool from Oobrien.com: A interactive map of Scotland's 32 council seats. Each seat contains information of when it is likely to declare its results, how large a share of the vote it is projected to make up, and how supportive of the yes side it is expected to be.
2:07 PM PT (David Nir): Polls are now closed in Scotland.
9:27 PM PT: The BBC and Sky News among others have projected a victory for the "no" side.
