It occurred to me yesterday that we are focused on the wrong enemy. Here we go again, spending billions bombing more Arabs. We simply cannot kill them all. Another, perhaps more extremist group, will crop up, even more angry and extreme than ISIS. This is never-ending. But is ISIS as much of a danger to Americans as Americans with guns are? I don't think so. More below.
Our society has been flooded with guns. The NRA gun lobby along with craven and cowardly politicians have made sure that our society is awash is guns, including those made for war. Police departments have war weapons and are using more deadly force than ever before, looking on their citizens as enemies and therefore targets of their violence.
We are an armed society and gun violence is killing Americans in the thousands every month, including kids. But they're not being killed by foreign terrorists.....no, they're being killed by other Americans. But because they are happening little by little instead of one huge event, and because they are Americans killing other Americans, we are in denial as a nation that it is indeed dangerous to be in America these days. It's more acceptable to go after those dangerous Arabs.
Politicians have ignored the wishes of the people on the subject of gun control. So, we are all sitting ducks for the next crazed gunman, in the mall, in a movie theatre, at school, at workplaces, on the street.......everywhere. Our chances of being hurt of killed are far greater from an American with a gun than an Arab in Syria or Iraq with a gun or bomb.
So now the war mongers have ginned up the fear of those who want to put Americans at risk, but they call them ISIS terrorists. They are wrong. So we'll spend billions on another war on foreign soil while ignoring the real threat right here in America, which is far greater.
We have gone insane. We are a nation in deep denial.
