Rand Paul's isolationism is, by some, characterized as a good thing, that's arguable, it's presented as being a high moral position, but it, at it's core, is ISOLATIONISM, which, in an interconnected world, not such a good thing. Once you are past the faux 'peace' bit and you get to his other 'positions', you get a very different take.
"Freedom" in his contradictory views is the freedom of moneyed interests to decide how much and what pollution is appropriate. The freedom to live with unrestrained bigotry, social, racial, religious, you name it. That is the teahadist view, which as Denise Oliver Velez has pointed out, is a core issue of the Neo Confederate 'movement'. "States Rights", with all it's Confederate baggage, is close to Paul's positions on many issues. The 'brown shirt' behavior of his supporters should inform everyone of his real ideas. That such a creature could be the Presidential nominee of a major political party, is mind boggling, although I expect it will not happen, the Republicans like war, (especially if it kills brown people) so long as they don't have to personally participate.
