The forces of darkness keep trying to block all paths
Wisconsin's current John Doe Probe, looking at possible likely (+ illegal) coordination between campaigns and dark money groups, has more twists and turns than a maze.
When the probe was revealed, multiple lawsuits in multiple courts were filed to try to shut it down. The prosecutors who were investigating were sued for damages. RW radio was shouting it down with every watt of transmitting power they could muster. "Witch hunt!" "Political prosecution!" "They're trampling on Free Speech!" Libruls and unions and thugs - Oh MY!"
Seeing all of this from Day 1, I knew that there must be a whole lot of "there" there.
Well, they've been dealt a serious blow by the 7th Circuit Court that delivered yet another smackdown to not just RW Federal Judge Rudolph (shut it down and destroy all the evidence) Randa, but to the RW plaintiffs for involving the federal courts in the first place. Not only that, but they reaffirmed that the prosecutors and investigators are immune from being sued for doing their jobs. Buh bye now.
Naturally, the forces of darkness are going to add another twist and, OMG, have they unveiled a doozey!
Striking back at Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm, a leader of a group that has been investigated for possible campaign finance violations is asking Chisholm to appoint a special prosecutor to determine if he has engaged in misconduct in office.
The move came in a letter dated Friday, just two days after a federal appeals court threw out a legal challenge aimed at stopping the campaign finance probe conducted by Chisholm.
The tossed lawsuit and the request for a special prosecutor both came from Eric O'Keefe, a director of the conservative Wisconsin Club for Growth.
If Chisholm does not agree to seek a special prosecutor within two weeks, O'Keefe wrote, he will attempt to launch a probe by other means, including by going to Gov. Scott Walker, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen or a judge.
That's right! Launch a probe of your own activities or we're running to our friend Scott Walker or our friend JB Van Hollen or a friendly judge in, let's say, Waukesha County to launch the investigation for us!
Bwahahahaha!
It gets better (or more funny - take your pick):
The letter contends Chisholm should be investigated because of comments by Michael Lutz maintaining Chisholm launched the investigations of Walker and his aides because his wife, Colleen, is a teachers union steward opposed to limits Walker put on collective bargaining for public workers.
Lutz initially made his comments anonymously this month in a story published in Legal Newsline, an online news service owned by an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel soon after reported Lutz had been the source for the story, which Legal Newsline later acknowledged.
The Journal Sentinel also reported Lutz, a criminal defense attorney and former police officer now on duty disability, last year issued a death threat against Chisholm and his family in a voice-mail message.
(bolding is mine)
Yes, take the complaints of a guy who made a death threat against one of the prosecutors and launch an investigation based on those complaints! I. Am. Not. Making. This. Up.
Naturally, Wisconsin media went with the then anonymous complaints in big front page news. Not so much the revelations about the guy who made the complaints.
So, forces of darkness and money, go right ahead. Keep Scott Walkers name in the news along with the word "investigation" and John Doe Probe 5 weeks before the election. You're helping my side. I know you probably don't realize that either.
5 weeks to go and the latest poll has Mary Burke ahead of Walker by 5 points among likely voters. More good news.
