My good friend John Christensen made the following comment on this poem that I wanted to share with you:
“So true as I listen to our first minority president give a well thought out speech to the UN in NYC. The change that we need is unprecedented in its scope and magnitude. We need to change almost everything. The way we govern, the way we power our homes and businesses, the way we treat people, and a multitude of other important considerations. Seasonal change is inevitable but social change has to be won by the people.” -John Christensen
Change
Today I walk on the sunny side of the roadway
As the old folks used to say
Yesterday I sought the shade on my walk
And just like that late summer faded in talk
To early fall and we begin to watch
For autumn’s own beauty and to catch
A leaf once green now burnt orange fall from an oak
Soon we will begin to resist the cool as fires we stoke
And so we learn yet again that there is no end of change
That all of this world and our lives is a long road
That pulls us all along a journey sometimes strange
But always and ever over we carry on the load.
