Scott Brown
Scott Brown must really think he doesn't need votes from women. Appearing on Fox News to promote his New Hampshire Senate campaign, the former Massachusetts senator had a chance to make the case for his record on women's issues.
Instead:
"Your opponent, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, she recently issued this statement on your record on women's issues. 'He doesn't stand up for women's reproductive rights and economic security. He co-sponsored legislation to deny women coverage for birth control or even mammograms. Had he two opportunities to vote for equal pay laws and both times voted no.' How do you respond to her claim?" Carlson asked.
"Well, unfortunately, I'm talking about issues that people care about," Brown responded.
He then went on to babble about being an "independent pro-choice Republican" and say that women, too, care about the issues he is talking about, like "border security, veterans issues, where we stand when it comes to Obamacare." Which they do. But reproductive rights. Women's economic security. Birth control coverage. Mammogram coverage. Equal pay. Apparently these are not issues that people care about enough for them to be worthy of Scott Brown's attention.
Or anyway, Brown doesn't think the people who care about these issues are worthy of his attention. Which just might be why there's a gender gap that could help re-elect Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and deny Brown his chance to become a senator from a second state.
Republicans like Scott Brown are one big reason we need to elect more Democratic women. Please give $3 to a Daily Kos-endorsed woman today.
