According to Huffington Post, Obama said this at an appearance today:
My appointee, [FCC Chairman] Tom Wheeler, knows my position. I can't now, that he's there, I can't just call him up and tell him exactly what to do. But what I've been clear about, what the White House has been clear about is that we expect whatever final rules to emerge to make sure that we're not creating two or three or four tiers of Internet. That ends up being a big priority of mine.
Once again, Obama says all the right things but then either doesn't mean them or fails to lead.
Join me below the squiggle for an Obama rant.
So, Obama has always been for Net Neutrality and it is a "big priority" of his.
But he appointed Tom-freaking-Wheeler to head the FCC. If this was such a big priority to him, wouldn't you make sure to appoint someone who shared your vision????? So once again, we are left with the uncomfortable question of whether Obama is just stupid or whether he really believes in the policies he claims to support.
And then he comes out with this idiotic statement about , "I can't just call him up and tell him exactly what to do". Right, because all your predecessors in office never called their appointees and let them know to get in line. Hell, Obama did it multiple times early on with Eric Holder when he stepped outside the box on official policy. What kind os leadership is this.
To be sure, I think Obama is very smart. So I can only conclude that he is either a weak leader or he really isn't as committed as he claims to the policies he espouses.
I'm a Progressive. Obama not so much. I just wish he'd stop pretending.
Watch out on net neutrality. In the end, whatever gets done is going to be net neutrality in name, but will have enough loopholes to favor the big companies. And then we will get told, "it was the best we could do".
I've been down this road before. Here we go again.
