Daily Kos & MoveOn.org
have joined forces to pursue a joint GOTV venture:
Voters Rising
As most active Democrats know, this election year
there are more registered Democrats than registered Republicans. Almost
everywhere.
So if we can just TURN OUT THE BASE this November 4th?
We WILL win.
The US Senate will stay in Democratic hands, and there is even a chance (small though it may be) that if we turn out ENOUGH of the Base - we can take the US House, too.
How to do that, with less than a month to go to Election Day?
Follow me below the fleur-de-kos for the rest of the story.
The Connect! Unite! Act! group is running point on the Voters Rising project here at Daily Kos.
What is the purpose of the Voters Rising project? To call already registered Democratic voters to remind them that there is an Election on November 4th and to urge them to Participate in their Democracy and to VOTE DEMOCRATIC.
MoveOn's Voters Rising campaign will connect you directly to progressives in key states who may stay home on Election Day without some extra motivation. Each calling shift will focus on one of these five races that could decide control of the Senate.
Michigan to help elect Gary Peters.
Colorado to help elect Mark Udall.
North Carolina to help elect Kay Hagan.
Iowa to help elect Bruce Braley.
Kentucky to defeat Mitch McConnell & help elect Alison Grimes
Today's edition of
VOTERS RISING highlights Pacific Northwest kossacks. Your project leader in the PacNW is
bleeding blue, who will be your host tonight - so please
address all questions to him in the comments!
Daily Kos, the Nation & the Democratic Party need you.
Will you answer the Call to Action?
US House Impeachment charges against President Nixon in 1974:
--Obstruction of justice
--Failure to take care that the laws are faithfully executed
--Contempt of Congress
Sound familiar? GOP Leadership has been saying the same things about President Obama for months now. Think about that while you read the rest of the story...
Every couple of years voters hear Doom and Gloom as the message in emails, to get you to click that little link and send the DSCC or the DCCC or one of the multitude of acronyms in D.C. some cold, hard cash for... what exactly do they want all that cash for?
They want it to buy tv and radio and print ads to combat the bazillion dollars Charles and David Koch (worth $40 billion each) and Sheldon Adelson (Las Vegas casino mogul) and a horde of other uber-wealthy conservatives flood the Republicans with every year, to ensure that THEIR politicians remain in office to pass the Bills ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) writes for them into Law. The group (ALEC) already claims more than 2,000 legislator members. More than 1 in 4 state lawmakers, the people elected to write laws, who now only photocopy what ALEC brings them and pass THAT into Law in their state. Does that bother you? It bothers me! A lot.
HOW can you help? It won't take a huge commitment from you. You can make a few phone calls. That's all. Use your phone and talk to people. How many of you have phones which you've used to call up perfect strangers at some company you do business with and talked to someone whom you'll never meet about a problem you're having with this company? You are nervous before you make the call, right? You worry about what you'll say and how they'll respond and if you'll end up yelling and angry or if you'll get a nice customer service representative who will be helpful and you'll get your problem solved.
Guess what? THAT is just about how it feels to make a phone banking call about politics. You feel the same initial nervousness. But once you start actually talking with people that nervousness goes away.
I know, because I've done this before, myself. People who lived here in my home town and who had come to a Dean MeetUp, these strangers were who I had to ask to start calling other strangers who live here in the District.
You know what? My phone banking crew did MARVELOUS. They pushed through their terror of talking on the phone and talked and talked and talked to hordes of people. Most calls are to answering machines. You only get live bodies once in a while. Surprisingly, more people than you think are happy to talk to someone about the coming election.
Will YOU volunteer to help save the Senate?
Daily Kos is teaming up with MoveOn.org to GET OUT THE VOTE in October.
MoveOn.org has set up four locations for call centers in NYC, Seattle, Chicago and Berkeley. There are online sign-up pages for each city throughout October. Please sign up at links below to volunteer your time. Remember, If our voters turn out, we win!
The Koch brothers are spending millions to buy the U.S. Senate in order to keep the economy rigged in their favor and against everyone else.
But MoveOn's 8 million members are fighting back

Special Notice to Koscadia members in the Portland, Oregon/Vancouver, WA Metro area:
I would LOVE to carpool up with a group of you to attend a Daily Kos Day/Night event the week of Oct 12 (SUN) to Oct 18 (Sat).
Personally, I'd prefer Sat morning, even though it would mean an early start from PDX at around 7 am. But that's just me :-)
Anyone in the Koscadia group who would like to carpool with me, please send Angie in WA State a Kosmail and let me know which day/time would work best for you. I'll do a round-robin response to all, so that you can see the most popular day/time and decide if you can make it that day.
