of political ads. It's a sorry case of overdoing a really bad thing; in this case, ads that are a bombardment of quarter-truths (they don't even qualify as half-truths) and outright lies. These ads have taken over television programs like a particularly nasty plague of electronic locusts. Political ads were supposed to educate and convince viewers that the candidate is dedicated to the welfare of voters. What we are getting now is a horrendous mixture of bombast and misinformation; and, worse, every election cycle the level of this junk sinks even further.
Does it ever occur to the political operatives that buy these ads that they have gone way overboard? Do they realize that the frustration over viewing the same misinformation over and over again is counterproductive and might backfire on their candidate? Why vote for someone who is responsible for these political distortions? The sad fact is they have plenty of money to spend and they're going to spend it - sad for the American public that is.
(more angst below the curlicue)
What's particularly galling is that this corruption of the public's right to know is being carried on airwaves that are public property. We own the broadcast airwaves and loan them to broadcasters. It is now long overdue that we, the American public, call back our loan.
