Why would you fight so hard to prevent others' joy?
Republican officials in Kansas, Montana, and South Carolina are basically sticking their fingers in their ears and squalling "la la la, I can't hear you" at the federal courts that have ruled in favor of marriage equality in recent weeks:
... officials in the three states are refusing to allow same-sex couples to obtain marriage licenses without a court order directing them to do so. It could be another month or more before the matter is settled.
In a political campaign debate Monday, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback vowed to defend his state's constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman. A federal court hearing is scheduled for Friday.
And after that hearing, U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree essentially has to "decide" to strike down the state's marriage ban. Because the 10th Circuit has already made the decision for him, and all that's left to do is yank Brownback's fingers out of his ears and say firmly "No, really. This is happening. Get out of the way." But denial is apparently the official strategy of equality opponents now:
John Eastman, chairman of the anti-gay marriage National Organization for Marriage, agreed with Warbelow that federal judges almost certainly will rule to allow same-sex marriages. But Eastman urged state officials to continue to put up a legal fight until the Supreme Court decides the issue one way or the other.
"Until the Supreme Court decides it, this remains a viable option," Eastman said.
It's a strange definition of viable, but then, this is more about being a dead-ender than anything else.

If these people won't get out of the way of equality, it's time for the courts to force them out of the way in no uncertain terms.
