Joni Ernst
It seems Joni Ernst really doesn't want to do serious interviews on the issues with the editorial boards and news stations of Iowa. Des Moines Register columnist Rekha Basu blew the whistle:
Is Joni Ernst afraid of newspaper editorial boards? After much negotiating, she was scheduled to meet his morning with writers and editors at The Des Moines Register, but last night her people called to unilaterally cancel. She has also begged off meetings with The Cedar Rapids Gazette and The Dubuque Telegraph-Herald.
Indeed.
The aforementioned Cedar Rapids Gazette:
So we hoped, amid all the noise and negativity, to meet with Braley and Ernst in a setting that would allow us to ask questions on the issues. Braley met with our editorial board for more than an hour. But Ernst’s campaign failed to make time in her schedule.
Add to that
KMEG News:
"Now after half a dozen attempts via email and phone calls to Joni Ernst's camp, we were unable to schedule a sit-down interview with the Republican candidate."
So we've got one case where Ernst's campaign scheduled then canceled a meeting and at least two where she simply avoided a meeting. That looks like a pattern, and a sensible one for a candidate who's doing her best to keep her extreme positions under the radar.

There's another pattern, too: Michigan Republican Terri Lynn Land is
similarly avoiding an editorial board interview. It's almost like they have something to hide. (They do: Their unpopular positions on everything from the minimum wage to birth control access.)
