Not mine. My wife's.
It was January 2013 that she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Her back had been badly damaged.
She responded well to chemo and radiation.
Then a year ago she underwent an autologous stem cell transplant to further knock back the disease.
She has remained on a maintenance dose of chemotherapy to keep the cancer in remission.
She has received infusions to rebuild her skeletal system.
Tuesday she had a PET scan.
Today her oncologist told her the results: "Better than this you could not have." While the oncologist wants another PET scan in 6 months, the current one show the bones are healing from the tumors in some places. And there's more:
She (the oncologist) actually thinks it would be good for Leaves on the Current to start doing some gentle yoga or Pilates. How far we have come from January 2013 when the worry was if she twisted suddenly she might snap her spine.
We are grateful for the continued support. We are delighted that she can resume even more of her physical activity. As our good friend Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, herself dealing with cancer, likes to tell me: "Life is Good!"
Peace.
