Dear Non-Voter:
I have to hand it to you. You are THE power in the United States. You will determine who controls the US Senate come January.
Polls find that you lean Democratic. Generally speaking, you're with the 99% and against the 1%. You want a fair break for ordinary folks instead of obscene breaks for the super-rich.
But by not voting, you virtually guarantee that Republican stooges of Wall Street and the super-rich will take power in Washington.
All you have to do is stay home on Election Day.
But here's the personal part, the face-yourself-in-the-mirror part. . .
When you look in the mirror, please remember this crucial fact: not voting is, in effect, voting without taking responsibility for your choice.
That's called cowardice.
Sounds harsh, painfully harsh, but consider the underlying truth: even if you're just apathetic, you lack the courage to believe that possibly, just possibly, you might matter.
You mark yourself as worthless as you declare yoursef to be by not voting. A self-fulfilling prophecy.
Are there numerous exceptions? Of course. (If you are one, please forgive me.) But if you are able to vote and simply choose not to— Well, you know who you are.
People have died, and spent years in prison, so you could choose to vote.
Or not.
That said, remember the five most dangerous words in American democracy: "I'll sit this one out."
Rethink your choice.
Thank you.
