Just a quick report on voting today. I showed up at 7:15, and about half of the machines were occupied. I checked in, no problems, and was issued the computer card to place into the machine. It refused to authorize voting. I was issued a new card, went to a different machine, same problem. After a third failed attempt, I had to vote provisional. Other people were having similar problems, but at least we voted.
Ticking off Secretary of State John Husted below the orange curlicue.
Secretary of State John Husted is running for office again, opposing Nina Turner, a DailyKos favorite. As the state official supervising voting, he ordered that two copies of detailed instructions on voting procedures be placed in each polling place. It's a top-bound, multiple page guide, with a typeface too small to really be useful to voters, and there's way too much information to be used by voters lining up to sign in. Its real purpose is that it has his name, title and signature on the front cover, in type large enough to be clearly visible.
While waiting for my third defective card to be set up, I informed the voting staff that his name on the document was illegal politicking inside the polling place, since the typeface and colors he used on the cover were just like the signs he has posted in the neighborhood. I then proceeded to rip out his name from the cover, leaving the title and all of the rest of the information usable. The staff said they would take care of the problem, and when I returned from voting provisionally, Husted's name on the other copy was totally covered with "I Voted!" stickers.
The election officials checked over the info on the envelope with my provisional ballot, said that everything was there, and then handed me my own sticker, saying "You earned yours today."
