On a
scale of
one to 10, with one being
the Super Bowl, and 10 being
the Holocaust, this week's
midterm elections went past
11! (PM EST)
Despite some early signs that Senate Democrats might live to fight another day, shortly before midnight, that dream turned into a nightmare.
Democrats then found themselves in a state of disarray, and quickly began to rend their garments—too quickly, if you ask me.
History has shown us that it wasn't over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor—and it ain't over now!
Barack Obama is still president, and barring impeachment, he will remain president for another two years—leaving plenty of time for our new Republican overlords to implode under the weight of their own stupidity.

Fox News' resident armchair psychiatrist, Dr. Keith Ablow, defended his diagnoses of President Obama.
Fox News contributor Keith Ablow shot back on Friday at a former president of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) after he condemned Ablow's on-air commentaries about President Barack Obama.
"As a medical professional it is readily apparent that a President who tours the world apologizing for America, who was part of a church in which the pastor preached 'God damn America!' and who admonished American entrepreneurs that they did not build their own businesses is a President who has issues with the nation of which he is President," Ablow said in a statement. "The use of selected and edited comments of mine to attempt to 'shoot the messenger' is an unfair attempt to impair my credibility."
The dispute began following an Associated Press feature on Ablow published on Thursday, in which ex-APA leader Jeffrey Lieberman blasted Ablow's activities.
"It is shameful and unfortunate that he is given a platform by Fox News or any other media organization," Lieberman said. "Basically he is a narcissistic self-promoter of limited and dubious expertise."
Meanwhile...
Dr. Ben Carson was dropped by the network as he prepares to engage in some narcissistic self-promotion of his own.
Fox News said on Friday that it had severed its relationship with former pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson amid speculation that he's planning a 2016 presidential run, the Washington Post reported. [...]
Carson was reportedly preparing to air an hour-long self-promotional video "introducing himself to the American people," ABC News reported. [...]
Carson said last month, in an interview with Fusion that he was hesitant to run for President and was only considering it because of the support he'd received.
"No, I don't want to be president. Why would any sane person want to do that?" Carson said. "I think I have to consider that, with so many clamoring for me to do it."
And, in other black conservative employment news...
Former Rep. Allen West (R-FL) will soon be deploying his deep thoughts on behalf of corporate interests.
According to a big ol' press release, come Jan. 2, 2015, the former disgraced colonel and former one-term congressman will become CEO of the "National Center for Policy Analysis," a Dallas-based think tank that shills for the oil and insurance industries and thinks that global warming is a big conspiracy. And yes, it probably gets money from Koch Industries, too.
West is understandably excited about his opportunity to continue riding the rightwing gravy train contribute to the work of this important institution:
"I am humbled and honored to have this opportunity to lead one of the country’s preeminent think tanks," said West. "I have long admired the NCPA's innovative research in health care, tax reform, entitlements, retirement, energy, environmental and education policy."
[N]ot so much mentioned in the big hiring announcement was this summer's leadership purge at the NCPA following allegations of "sexual misconduct and breach of fiduciary duty" at the think tank, which led to the firing of the previous CEO and the departure of over half its board members.
It all works out in the end.
