From the sinking heart of Florida to the cold climes of Wisconsin....I want to look away, move away... just look what our stoopidity got us, again. It is nothing short of disaster but should not be surprising.
1) we live in a plutocracy.
2) the majority of Americans are too “comfortable” or too busy with survival (by design) to bother with voting or protest. Snowden has referred to some as “low information voters”. It puts it rather nicely if you ask me.
3) then there is that voter suppression thing.
4) how about the unfree media. Long live Any Goodman and Democracy Now!
Sadly, we will end up going from crisis to crisis. Better brush up on on “crisis management”. [Insert the shock doctrine here]
Things look so bleak nationally as well as in our states but it may be that the state is where action must rise. It is easy, in despair, to sink down and stay down. We all must gnash our teeth, take our break but come out fighting. Consider the Working Families Party that was successful in shaping policy under the re-elected Governor Cuomo of NY who agreed to major concessions. They are looking for affiliates.
From The Nation
“So successful has the Working Parties Families been that activists in other states are developing WFP affiliates with an eye toward creating a national network of state-based parties to reshape the debate around issues like a living wage, paid sick leave and fair taxation.”
The WFP has been effective in getting the Governor and legislators to respond to
human needs rather than corporate donors.
It feels like an uphill battle but what choice remains other than to sink lower than where this mid-term election has taken us...
